Newcastle supremo makes trophy pledge and top six claim as five year plan revealed

Newcastle United CEO Darren Eales has emphasized the club’s aim for the next five years, stating that a top-six finish is the desired goal from the powers that be.

The Magpies are seven points behind the leaders in the Premier League heading into the final ten games of the season, and they have a lot of work to do if they want to make the Europa Conference League. The race for Europe will resume after the international break against fellow contenders West Ham, but Eales discussed the club’s long-term ambition during a Fan Advisory Board meeting last month, and the outcomes of that meeting have now been released.

Eales, who has seen Newcastle drop from fourth to tenth place in the last year, stated: “We’re going to build a results-driven, world-class, sustainable organization that consistently achieves top six status for men’s and women’s teams and wins major trophies within the next five years.”

Newcastle’s last chance of winning a trophy was dashed in the FA Cup quarter-finals after being drawn in the last eight against holders and European winners Manchester City last weekend. Despite losing to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup’s last eight stage, fans may say the Magpies had reasonable runs in both tournaments.

Newcastle has a busy summer ahead, both on and off the field, and while United did not spend heavily in the January window, Eales warned that this would not be the case in future trading seasons. Eales continued, “The club’s revenue growth over the last two seasons and into this season has been phenomenal.

“Off the pitch, because we started from a low revenue base, we are still a long way behind the top six in the Premier League.”Because we can only spend a percentage of our revenue, we always aim to spend as much as possible on the team while adhering to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

“This means it is vital that we look at ways to raise revenue streams, whether through matchday, St.James’ STACK, commercial partnerships, retail/merchandise, tours, hospitality and events.”
