Newcastle United are one step closer to recruiting a top young talent from Juventus as they prepare to clear out this summer.
The Italian club is still struggling financially and may want to cash in on some of their young prospects in the summer, with Newcastle reportedly eyeing one in particular.
According to a fresh rumor from AS Roma Live, Juventus may approve the sale of defender Dean Huijsen, who is being pursued by both Newcastle and Arsenal.
Huijsen’s future at Juventus is still up in the air
Huijsen was loaned out to Serie A rivals Roma after only one appearance for Juventus this season, where he has enjoyed more regular action and has garnered high praise from Daniele De Rossi.
While recognizing that Huijsen has a long way to go in his development, the Roma manager noted that his game has ‘no limits’ due to his high-level awareness and reading of football.
Of course, at only 18 years old, he still has a lot to learn, but there are some encouraging indicators, and Newcastle appear to be ready to pounce, especially now that Sven Botman may be sidelined until 2025.
Newcastle may replace one Dutch defender with another if Juventus decides to cash in on the teenager, but Arsenal will undoubtedly provide stiff competition if they make him a key aim this summer.
Newcastle to capitalise on Juventus struggles
It appears that practically every football team is hurting financially at the moment, albeit some are significantly more serious than others, particularly given Juventus’ history.
Newcastle may contemplate moving an important player, such as Bruno Guimaraes or Alexander Isak, in order to free up funds for the summer, which would be a significant blow.
However, it would be wise for Newcastle to use other clubs’ troubles against them, which is exactly what they could do to Juventus with Huijsen.
The Geordies have also been linked with another young player, Matias Soule, who is on loan at Frosinone, so if Juventus is starving for cash this summer, they may make a big raid for some of their younger players.
