This completes the trade that the M’s made earlier this offseason to acquire utility man Samad Taylor from Kansas City.
The Royals made an announcement on social media.
We have acquired RHP Natanael Garabitos from the Seattle Mariners, completing the January transaction for Samad Taylor.
MLBTradeRumors have further information on Garabitos’ career to date.
Garabitos, 23, signed with the Mariners as an amateur from the Dominican Republic in 2019. Since making his professional debut, he has pitched in the minor leagues’ lower levels. Garabitos has a high strikeout rate but walks far too many hitters. In 2023, he continued this trend at Low-A Modesto, issuing free passes to 17.3% of his opponents. In 40 1/3 innings, the 6’0″ right-handed pitcher struck out 30.2% of batters and allowed 4.02 earned runs per nine.

According to MLB.com, Garabitos does not rank in the Royals’ top-30 farm system as they work to rebuild their organization.
However, he is an intriguing arm for Royals fans to watch develop, with the possibility of contributing in the future.
Kansas City finished fifth in the American League Central last year with the AL’s second-worst record, but after acquiring Michael Wacha, Seth Lugo, Will Smith, Garrett Hampson, Hunter Renfroe, and Adam Frazier this offseason, they should be considerably better.
Taylor, a speedster, hopes to make the M’s team out of spring training. He’s hitting.269 this spring.
