Newcastle identify 42-year-old director to replace Dan Ashworth, he’s keen on the move

Newcastle United appear to have identified the best candidate to replace Dan Ashworth, with the goal of hastening his departure.

It was stated last month that Ashworth would be departing Newcastle, who were seeking to get £20 million in compensation from Manchester United, but they may be willing to compromise.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle want to hire a new director as quickly as possible ahead of a busy summer, and they have selected former Tottenham and Southampton manager Paul Mitchell as their top choice.

Initially, it was assumed that Newcastle would be willing to wait as long as necessary to prevent Ashworth from working for one of their immediate Premier League rivals, despite his gardening leave extending 20 months.

However, they understand the significance of making choices fast ahead of what will be a vital summer transfer window, and would be willing to reach an agreement with the Red Devils.

There are a handful of options that might replace the former Brighton and England player, but Newcastle prefers Paul Mitchell after admiring his work at other European clubs.

Currently, CEO Darren Eales is serving as the club’s principal negotiator, but there is a power vacuum at the top that must be filled promptly, and Mitchell is regarded to be the ideal man for the job.

Mitchell has spent a lot of time in Europe, working for Southampton, Tottenham, RB Leipzig, and most recently AS Monaco, whom he left as sporting director a year ago.

The 42-year-old has helped to discover talents like as Sadio Mane, Heung-Min Son, and Matheus Cunha, so Newcastle fans will undoubtedly be pleased by the idea of a new director.

Ashworth will be difficult to replace given how highly he was clearly valued by Newcastle’s owners, but if someone like Mitchell wants to stay in the North East for the long term, there’s no reason why the club can’t succeed.

Mitchell has an established track record across Europe and is one of the best candidates in his field; combine that with the intriguing project in Newcastle, and you’re likely to see excellent results.
