Southampton are hoping to convert Ryan Fraser’s loan move from Newcastle United into a permanent deal in the summer.
Fraser has developed as a crucial player for Southampton after joining on a season-long loan from Newcastle in August, scoring six goals and providing two assists in 30 Championship outings this season.
Between the end of September and the beginning of February, the Scotland winger helped the Saints go unbeaten in 22 league games, a club record.
Southampton’s promotion chances have suffered a setback in recent weeks, with Russell Martin’s side losing three of their previous six Championship games, leaving them six points behind the automatic promotion positions, while having a game in hand on the teams around them.
Fraser is now out injured after suffering a knee injury in Southampton’s defeat to Millwall last month, but Martin hopes to have the star back after the international break.
Southampton targeting permanent Ryan Fraser move
According to Teamtalk the club is hoping to recruit Fraser on a permanent basis in the summer, with the former Aberdeen and Bournemouth midfielder expected to be available for a low fee once his Newcastle contract expires.
According to sources, Newcastle are eager to offload Fraser’s £60,000 per week salary, with a little price likely enough to secure his permanent transfer to Southampton.
After the player was injured against Millwall, Southampton manager Martin emphasised Fraser’s significance to his squad.p
