The Miami Dolphins are improving their defense by adding an edge rusher to the roster. According to Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com, Shaquil Barrett has expressed his desire to join the Dolphins.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Barrett’s contract with the Dolphins is one year and may be worth up to $9 million.
Barrett is 31 years old and brings a wealth of expertise to Miami. He spent the last five seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, winning a Super Bowl with them in 2020. Barrett’s best season was in 2019, when he led the league with a remarkable 19.5 sacks. Barrett managed 10 sacks in 2021, despite not regularly hitting those amounts.

Barrett finished the 2023 season with 4.5 sacks, three tackles for loss, and nine quarterback hits. He also demonstrated his flexibility with three forced fumbles and one interception. Despite his accomplishments, the Buccaneers decided to release Barrett late last month.
Barrett has 59 sacks, 73 tackles for loss, and 125 quarterback hits in 131 games over his nine-year career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos combined. His return to the Dolphins’ defense aims to improve the pass rush while also providing crucial experienced leadership.
