Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes, Miguel Almiron, and Fabian Schar have all been called up to their respective national squads this month, with more to come.
Newcastle United are poised to be without many first-team players over the international break.
Following Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City, players called up will join their national squads for the March friendlies. It is a significant opportunity for players to clinch their spot in the next Euro 2024 event in Germany.
Bruno Guimaraes, Miguel Almiron, and Fabian Schar have already been called up to their respective teams, but Sven Botman was again left out of the Netherlands squad.
Newcastle are in risk of missing out on the England squad for the first time in two years due to a slew of injuries. Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier were both called up to the England squad during the previous international break, but had to withdraw.
Due to injury, the two, as well as goalkeeper Nick Pope, will not be called up to Gareth Southgate’s squad when it is announced on Thursday afternoon. The England manager was in attendance at Newcastle’s 3-2 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer received the praises, but Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon was forced to leave due to knee injury. The Magpies winger, who has scored 10 goals for the club this season, is expected to receive his first senior call-up this week.
However, the injury is likely to keep him out of the following friendlies against Brazil and Belgium. However, a Newcastle player could be named to the England side unexpectedly.

1. Martin Dubravka (Slovakia) – likely
Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is a regular in the Slovakia side and is set to head away with with country for the upcoming friendlies against Austria and Norway.
2. Nick Pope (England) – out
It’s been 18 months since Pope last featured for England. He will miss out on the upcoming squad due to a shoulder injury.
3. Kieran Trippier (England) – out
Trippier was set to be part of the England squad for the upcoming friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium but now misses out due to a calf injury.
4. Sven Botman (Netherlands) – out
A first international cap continues to elude Sven Botman given his recent form and injury troubles. Netherlands face Scotland and Germany later this month.
5. Fabian Schar (Switzerland) – likely
Schar has been capped 78 times for his country and is set to be named in the squad again for the friendly matches against Denmark and Republic of Ireland.
6. Emil Krafth (Sweden) – likely
Krafth is a regular in the Sweden side when fit. He is likely to be named in Jon Dahl Tomasson’s first Sweden squad for the upcoming friendly matches against Portugal and Albania.
7. Tino Livramento (England) – likely
Tino Livramento has emerged as a potential surprise selection in Gareth Southgate’s England team for the upcoming matches against Brazil and Belgium. While the 21-year-old has never been called up for England, his performances for Newcastle and a lack of viable competition at right-back could lead to his inclusion in Southgate’s team.
8. Joelinton (Brazil) – out
Joelinton earned a spot in the Brazil national team last year and ended up scoring on his debut. A thigh injury will keep him out of the upcoming squad.

Anderson was called up to Scotland’s team at the start of the season and appeared to be on track to earn his maiden international cap until withdrawing. He has only recently returned from injury, and his international future remains uncertain.
13. Bruno Guimaraes (Brazil) – confirmed
Bruno Guimaraes will make an appearance at Wembley Stadium later this month when Brazil face England. They also face Spain in Madrid. The midfielder has already been picked to the Brazilian team.
14. Callum Wilson (England) – out
Wilson returned to Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad and scored in last summer’s 4-0 Euro 2024 qualifying triumph against Malta. He was called up to the previous England squad but had to withdraw owing to an injury. He will miss this season’s squad due to a chest injury.

Alexander Isak is set to be involved in the friendly matches against Portugal and Albania.
