Newcastle have already lined up their first summer transfer – ‘talented’ player set to join

Newcastle United is close to triggering the performance-related requirements for signing the Chelsea defender.
Eddie Howe believes Lewis Hall will be a Newcastle United player for “many years” as he nears a permanent transfer from Chelsea.

Newcastle is obligated to buy Hall for £28 million plus £7 million in add-ons provided certain performance-related conditions are reached. However, the 19-year-old’s lack of playing time has caused uncertainty about his future.

While Howe will not reveal the exact criteria, the United manager claims the left-back is close to making a move.

“In terms of my thinking, I’m preparing for Lewis to be at Newcastle for many years,” Howe added. “He was always brought in with a long-term perspective, not as a short-term signing. He is a long-term signee.

“We have always believed in him and his abilities, and we have been working very hard with him on his game.” He’s an extremely talented young man. He, like the other players, has a few things to improve on. I believe in him. My vision for him is that he will stay at Newcastle for many years.”

When asked if the prerequisites to turn the arrangement into a permanent one have been met yet, Howe replied: “I don’t think that completely happened yet, but hopefully it will do very soon.”
