Andros Townsend has signed with Burnley’s relegation rivals Luton Town after his trial period earlier this summer.
The 32-year-old had agreed to join the Clarets after a successful pre-season trial period, only for the club to back out at the last minute.
Moves to Turkey and Saudi Arabia also fell through, so the winger will begin the season as a free agent after being released by Everton at the end of last season.
However, following two weeks of training with the Hatters, the England international has agreed to a short-term contract until January.
“I feel like it’s a good fit and these last couple of weeks have been good for both parties,” said Townsend.
“I think it had to be right, and I feel like we’ve looked at each other and done that over the last two weeks.”
“I’ve seen where I can help this team, and the manager has seen where I can help – whether on the field, in the locker room, or on the practice field – with my enthusiasm and experience.”
“Plus, Luton are my local team – I live 20-25 minutes away – so I’ve kept an eye on their progress, and seeing them win promotion in the Championship play-off final was fantastic for the club.”

Speaking on his attempted Burnley transfer last month, Townsend said that he burst into tears as it became evident that the deal was no longer available.
“I left that conversation in tears after being offered a contract and getting to the point where you’re signing the contract and just waiting for the paperwork to come through.” “I felt like my Premier League dream had come to an end,” he told the BBC.
