According to journalist Liam Keen, who discussed the Paraguayan on the current E&S podcast, Wolves youngster Enso Gonzalez will need time to settle in at the club.
Gonzalez joined Wolves for about £5 million from Libertad the day before the deadline.
Wolves returned to the South American market in the summer after enjoying success with the signing of Joao Gomes.
Gonzalez and Uruguay international Santi Bueno both signed.
Gonzalez has yet to make his first-team debut. And he’s only been on the bench a couple of times. Some expected him to play against Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup, but he was just named on the bench and did not appear.
He played for the U21s recently against Leeds – and it seems he may be turning out for James Collins’ side a few more times before he gets a chance under Gary O’Neil…
How Enso Gonzalez has been getting on at Wolves
Gonzalez was mentioned in the most recent E&S podcast, when writer Liam Keen was discussing his current situation.
Fans wishing to see him play for the first team will have to be patient.
“It’s very much an 18-year-old lad moving over from Paraguay,” Keen explained. New football, new culture, and new language. By the sounds of it, he’ll need a lot of time to catch up.
“Obviously, he was on the bench at Palace not long after signing, but that was more of a case of ‘we need someone on the bench’ than him ever having a chance to come on.”
“I don’t expect to see him much in the Premier League this season.” Things do change fast. But, from what we’re hearing right now, it’s a case of ‘give him time, let him get used to his surroundings, and see how he does’.
Patience required over Enso
The Wolves are ecstatic about Gonzalez’s acquisition, but it appears that he will be a while before he makes the first squad.
Gonzalez showed flashes of talent for the U21s, but also why he isn’t banging on the door for a first-team spot, according to Keen.
Gonzalez is a promising young player.
Hopefully, by the second part of the season, he’ll be able to come in and have an effect.
Pedro Neto and Hwang Hee-chan, for example, will most certainly need extra rest by then.
