Newcastle United officials are apparently looking for a “incredible” manager known for playing offensive football, with Eddie Howe under increasing pressure to keep his job.

The Englishman has had an excellent time at St James’ Park, leading the Magpies clear from the Premier League relegation zone when he joined in 2021 and then making them a true force again last season.
Reaching the Champions League in 2022/23 was a fantastic achievement for Howe and his players, and the hope was that they would kick on again this season.
Unfortunately, things haven’t gone as planned, with injuries undoubtedly playing a role in Newcastle’s troubles, but too many poor performances and choices have also contributed to their current position of ninth in the table.
Saturday’s 4-1 defeat away to Arsenal was a humiliating experience for the Magpies, who were blown away in the first half in especially, and it has put Howe under undue pressure to keep his job. It’s unclear how close he is to being fired, but a fresh update indicates that one potential successor is already being considered.
Newcastle want Ruben Amorim if Howe leaves
According to a recent TEAMtalk post, Newcastle are considering Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim as Howe’s successor if the current Magpies manager leaves.
“TEAMtalk can exclusively report that Ruben Amorim, the manager of Sporting Lisbon, has emerged as a candidate to succeed Eddie Howe as Newcastle United manager in the summer. Amorim has established himself as one of Europe’s most promising young coaches, with the 39-year-old making an immediate impact at Sporting Lisbon since his arrival in March 2020.
According to the source, Amorim has a “attractive style of play” that may appeal to Newcastle fans, since the Portuguese is known for using a forward-thinking 3-4-3 shape as his preferred system.
Given some of the performances and results this season, it’s fair that Magpies fans are thinking about life after Howe, and Amorim is probably one of Europe’s leading young managers right now.
The fact that he is apparently a front-runner alongside Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool speaks volumes about his reputation in the game, and at 39 years old, he is still just getting started in managing.
Amorim has previously been regarded as “incredible” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, and he won the Primeira Liga title with Sporting in 2020/21. If the PIF makes a decisive choice on Howe’s future, he appears to be a strong candidate to replace him.
