Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Rafa Leao is still determined to helping AC Milan finish the season on a high, despite doubts over his future this summer.
PSG is one of the clubs rumored to be interested in the left-sided forward, though the French club would have to pay a significant fee to bring him to Paris.
“I would never guess whether PSG would produce a bid that fulfills Milan’s expectations for Rafa Leao. Leao has a €175 million release clause; let’s see if clubs can get close enough to that figure to initiate talks with Milan, but nothing has transpired so far,” the CaughtOffside journalist wrote in his exclusive Daily Briefing column.
“These kind of transactions hit critical phases around May/June, never in February or March.
“I can also promise that Leao does not want any distractions until the end of the season, and those “social media” followers demanding his sale following his performance against Rennes in the Europa League are not all of his supporters. I live in Milan, and I can assure you that Rafa Leao is quite popular among Milan fans.”
This season, the Portugal star has had a mixed bag of results, scoring 16 goals in 31 games (all competitions) for Milan. Crucially, he hasn’t scored in the Italian top flight since a three-game streak in September.
Leao not alone on PSG’s radar…
It is worth mentioning that the upcoming departure of Kylian Mbappe, whose contract at Parc des Princes expires on June 30, leaves up a wide range of skills to PSG’s wandering eye.
According to GOAL, the names linked include Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
The current French champions could hardly do worse than one of Serie A’s top scorers in the latter.
Nonetheless, the Nigerian appears to be attracting significantly more interest than Leao as the summer season opens. This could significantly determine the direction in which the PSG purse opens.
