European club now planning fresh transfer agreement with Southampton

Southampton lost one high-profile player in the January transfer window: Carlos Alcaraz.

The midfielder, who previously played for Racing Club in Argentina, joins in January 2023.

However, he has been loaned out again, this time to Juventus until the end of the season.

As part of the agreement, the Serie A heavyweights allegedly have the option to buy Alcaraz for £40 million when the market reopens in the summer.

However, it appears that, while the Italians are interested in extending the Southampton player’s contract, they are unwilling to do it on those circumstances.

Juventus eyeing Carlos Alcaraz agreement

Since joining Juventus last month, Alcaraz has only made two substitute appearances for the club. Nevertheless, the Southampton loanee seems to have left a positive impression in Italy to some degree.

Reports from CalcioMercato indicate that Juventus is hesitant to activate the expensive buy clause in Alcaraz’s loan deal. Instead, they are interested in renegotiating terms with Southampton. It’s rumored that Serie A giants are preparing a new offer for the Saints.

This new proposal may involve restructuring the loan agreement, possibly adjusting the buyout fee to facilitate a permanent transfer. Additionally, there’s speculation that the option to buy Alcaraz from Southampton could transition from being merely an option to becoming an obligation.

Juventus is reportedly aiming to reduce transfer costs through this deal. Furthermore, Southampton’s interest in Juventus striker Matias Soule could factor into the negotiations.

Alcaraz recently signed a new five-year contract with Southampton, giving the club significant leverage in discussions regarding his future.

Southampton should consider Carlos Alcaraz negotiations

Indeed, Southampton isn’t under immediate pressure to strike a deal with Juventus for Alcaraz, given the midfielder’s contract situation. However, it’s worth considering whether it could be beneficial for the club.

Alcaraz hasn’t fully settled at St Mary’s and has struggled to consistently perform at his best for Southampton. In light of this, it may not be advantageous for the club to retain him if there’s an opportunity to negotiate a deal with Juventus.

Such a deal could potentially provide financial benefits for Southampton and prevent them from having a player on their roster who may not be fully committed to the club.

Furthermore, Southampton’s interest in Soule from Juventus adds an interesting dynamic to the situation. It suggests that a deal involving Alcaraz could pave the way for the club to strengthen its squad with a new addition.

Considering these factors, Southampton might benefit from keeping an open mind regarding Alcaraz’s future and exploring potential opportunities with Juventus.
