Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes Antonio Conte is the best candidate to succeed Stefano Pioli, while Milan prefers Bologna’s Thiago Motta, according to sources.
Pioli is widely expected to be fired by the Rossoneri in the summer following the team’s lack of growth this season, which saw the club exit the Champions League in the group stage and fall far behind in the fight for the league title.
While no definitive decision has been made, many Milan fans believe Pioli’s time in the dugout should end, even though he led them to the Scudetto two years ago. It remains to be seen whether a Europa League win will change matters for the Italian coach.
According to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Milan consider Thiago Motta to be one of the top possibilities to replace Pioli if he leaves the club this summer.
The Rossoneri have been studying the Italian-Brazilian coach’s work at Bologna for several months and admire his ability to develop young players, his offensive yet balanced playing style, and his man-management abilities.
Thiago Motta is increasingly convincing Milan that he is the perfect man for the position, but former striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still lobbying for Conte, preferring the former Chelsea and Italy coach in charge.
