Analyst believes free agent running back will only sign with Ravens

Most of the NFL would consider running back Derrick Henry to be one of the best free agents available, but former quarterback and ESPN commentator Robert Griffin III says there is just one team he should consider.

“Derrick Henry plays with physicality, is relentless in his preparation and has a clear passion to get over the hump to play for a championship,” Griffin III said in a post on platform X. “He only has one place to go. Derrick Henry should be a Baltimore Raven because he already plays like one.”

Henry has been a model of consistency, averaging at least 1,000 running yards and 12 rushing touchdowns in five of the last six seasons. Even in his one “down year,” he rushed for 937 yards and 10 touchdowns in only eight games.

The two-time rushing yards and touchdowns leader is already 30, which is likely one of the reasons the Titans could let him go in free agency in less than a month. But Baltimore should believe otherwise.

QB Lamar Jackson led the club in rushing (821), while running backs Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins are also expected to leave.

The Ravens could yet opt to bring back one of them, but ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler believes they will look for more upside at the position this offseason.

“Some personnel people inside the league believe the Ravens will target a running back with pedigree in free agency,” Fowler said in a statement.

Henry would undoubtedly improve Baltimore’s running back room. According to Pro Football Focus, a team with only $13.65 million in cap space may not need to make a significant commitment to obtain him.

According to Spotrac, Henry is anticipated to sign a one-year contract worth $10.3 million.

If other teams are interested in the four-time Pro Bowler, the number might increase.

But pairing Henry with Jackson would make the Ravens attack even more powerful in 2024.
