Stewart Donald has appointed a former Sunderland player as the manager of Eastleigh.
Former Sunderland custodian Kelvin Davis has taken over as manager of non-league team Eastleigh.
The Spitfires are owned by former Sunderland owner Stewart Donald, who formally left the club in May 2023 when Kryil Louis-Dreyfus and Juan Sartori purchased his remaining shares.
The following month, Donald agreed to buy a controlling position in non-league club Eastleigh, five years after selling the club previously. Sunderland’s former owner has cut ties with the club.
Former Sunderland custodian Davis, 47, has replaced Richard Hill, who left the Spitfires by mutual consent on Saturday.
Hill was active at Sunderland during Donald’s tenure as head of football operations, during one of the club’s darkest moments, as the Black Cats attempted but failed to escape League One.
Davis has been looking for work since he was fired as an assistant coach at his previous club Southampton in the summer of 2022, a position he had held for four and half years. Davis joined Sunderland in June 2005 for £1.25 million and was a member of the club that was relegated from the Premier League.
Davis will be joined at Eastleigh by former Southampton defender Danny Butterfield, who will serve as assistant manager. Eastleigh is 15th in the National League and has gone 11 games without a win in all competitions, most recently losing 3-0 at Ebbsfleet United.
