Manchester United are attempting to lure Newcastle United’s Dan Ashworth to Old Trafford, and Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the matter, implying that negotiations between the Magpies and their sporting director have ended.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe owning a 25% share in the Red Devils, the INEOS founder intends to make significant changes at the club. United’s transfer strategy is about to shift substantially, and Ashworth might play an important part in adopting a new recruitment approach.

United to make formal proposal

Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth wants Manchester United role

According to The Athletic, Ashworth has been placed on gardening leave at St James’ Park due to interest from Manchester. INEOS is considering both Ashworth and Southampton’s Jason Wilcox for roles at Old Trafford, with Ratcliffe moving swiftly to make changes.

Romano, an Italian journalist, has provided an update, stating that Manchester United will formally propose to Newcastle and negotiate compensation for Ashworth. Ashworth has agreed to the move, signaling the end of his time at Newcastle.

Newcastle is demanding over £20m for Ashworth and is willing to keep him on gardening leave until 2026 to receive the fee. If Manchester United doesn’t meet the asking price, the process could be prolonged.

Ben Jacobs, a journalist, believes Newcastle will allow Ashworth to leave if their financial demands are met. Newcastle wants a swift resolution, even though the summer transfer window is still far off, as Manchester United aims to have the right personnel in place for potential moves.
