Breaking news: Newcastle United announce deal for Swedish Star

Newcastle United’s right full-back and Sweden national team player, Emil Krafth, has agreed to extend his contract with the Magpies for an additional year, the club revealed on Wednesday. This commitment ensures his presence at the club until June 2025.

At 29 years old, Krafth’s contract extension arrives as a relief, considering his previous contract was nearing its end this season, raising doubts about his future with the team due to limited playing opportunities.

However, Krafth has opted to prolong his tenure with Newcastle, even if it means spending more time on the bench. Since his arrival from Amiens in 2019, he has amassed 73 appearances for the Premier League side across various competitions.

Krafth has faced adversity in recent seasons, grappling with significant injuries, notably an ACL injury last season that kept him sidelined for nearly a year, with setbacks prolonging his recovery. Despite this, he made a commendable return to the pitch in November, contributing to Newcastle’s performances across competitions, including a notable outing in their 3-0 victory over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

With 44 caps for Sweden, Krafth’s wealth of experience adds value to Newcastle’s squad, serving as a mentor for younger players and contributing to manager Howe’s vision for the team’s development.

Regarding the contract extension, Krafth stated, “I am delighted to extend my time here and commit to Newcastle United for another year.” It’s been an up-and-down ride since I joined the club, but I feel at home here and want to reciprocate the faith and support given in me, particularly throughout my injury recuperation.

Krafth went on to say, “It’s a really exciting time for the club on and off the pitch, and I’m so happy to be able to continue being a part of that and hopefully help the team finish the season strong.”

Congratulations, Emil!
