Breaking news: New York Yankees Claim 24-year-old Top Prospect

Jordan Groshans, a prized prospect for the Toronto Blue Jays, was designated for assignment by the Miami Marlins and has been acquired by the New York Yankees.

After being designated for assignment by the Miami Marlins, infielder Jordan Groshans was claimed off waivers by the New York Yankees.

Groshans was once regarded as one of baseball’s finest prospects, having emerged with the Toronto Blue Jays.
According to the Yankees on social media:

Earlier afternoon, the Yankees claimed INF Jordan Groshans off waivers from the Miami Marlins. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated LHP Matt Krook for assignment.

He was ranked in the Top 100 prospects (per MLB.com) for three years in a row from 2020 to 2022, reaching No. 46 in 2021. Groshans is still only 24, so there’s a chance he’ll find himself as he grows older, but that hasn’t occurred yet. He’s batted.262 in 61 career major league at-bats and hit only.244 at Triple-A last season, with six home runs.

It appears unlikely that he will be able to make an impact with the Yankees in the major leagues in 2024, but everything is possible. Infielders on New York’s 40-man roster include Anthony Volpe, DJ LeMahieu, Gleyber Torres, Anthony Rizzo, Oswald Peraza, and Jorbit Vivas.

The Yankees come into spring training with high hopes. After placing fourth in the American League East and missing the playoffs last season, New York signed Marcus Stroman and acquired Juan Soto, Trent Grisham, and Alex Verdugo through trades.

They also aim to have top prospect Jasson Dominguez back from injury by mid-summer.
