Former Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside has told his team of his intention to retire from basketball.
Another star who has spent significant time with the Miami Heat has announced his retirement.
Hassan Whiteside, a former Heat big man, is retiring from basketball after a 10-year NBA career. Whiteside played with the Miami Heat from 2015 to 2019.
“Hassan Whiteside, informed the management of the Pirates of Quebradillas of his intention to retire from basketball,” elvacilondelbsnofficial wrote on Instagram. “That’s why he won’t be back with his franchise.”
He averaged 14.1 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks while shooting 57.5 percent in Miami. He was a dominant force on both ends of the court, even registering a triple-double in blocks. Victor Wembanyama, the San Antonio Spurs’ top draft pick, recently accomplished this feat.
His career advanced to the Puerto Rican BSN with the Piratas de Quebradillas in 2023. Over 37 games, he averaged 22.2 points and 13.5 rebounds.
Throughout his NBA career, Whiteside played for the Sacramento Kings, Utah Jazz, and Portland Trail Blazers. His best seasons were with the Heat, where he led the league in blocks once and was nominated to the All-Defensive Second Team.
At 34, Whiteside is ready to hang up his jersey and move on with the rest of his life.
