According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United does not want to pass up the opportunity to capture Tottenham target Lloyd Kelly on a free transfer, given their current financial situation.
Until last week, numerous sites indicated that Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool were vying for Kelly’s signature this summer.
This includes an update from TEAMtalk, which stated that the Reds had gone ahead of Spurs in the race for the 25-year-old, who had reportedly decided not to renew his contract at the Vitality Stadium.
However, during the weekend, HITC said that the Magpies had also entered the battle for the centre-back and were prepared to compete with Liverpool and Tottenham.
Newcastle, Liverpool and Spurs all like Lloyd Kelly
The Mail has now confirmed Newcastle’s interest in Kelly, describing the defender as ‘one of the most sought-after free agents of the summer’.
According to the article, the North East team was unable to spend much in January due to a potential violation of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability criteria.
Newcastle are reportedly searching for some budget options, with Kelly fitting the profile that Eddie Howe is looking for.
The publication says that, in addition to Tottenham, Liverpool, and Newcastle, AC Milan, Monaco, and Stuttgart have all made ‘proposals’ for the Bournemouth star.
Author’s Opinion
Kelly will receive numerous offers next summer, and as a free agent, he will be able to choose his future destination. I doubt he would want to move to Spurs because he knows he will just be a squad member at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
