Burnley face fresh injury concern as key player withdraws from International squad

Ameen Al-Dakhil has withdrawn from Belgium’s international squad, adding to Burnley’s injury difficulties.
The 21-year-old was selected for Belgium’s next Euro 2024 qualifiers against Austria and Sweden.

However, the centre-back has now been ruled out of the team owing to an injury.
“Ameen Al-Dakhil is not fit for the Austria game and has left the squad,” the Red Devils stated. Zinho Vanheusden has joined the squad. Zinho, welcome back.”

It comes after Al-Dakhil was substituted at halftime during Burnley’s 4-1 loss to Chelsea last

weekend.

Vincent Kompany is already short on centre-backs after the injury to Jordan Beyer.

“It’s a sprain. Jordan is hurt,” Kompany remarked following the German’s absence against Chelsea. “That’s unfortunate for us and comes at a bad time.”

Another center defender, Hjalmar Ekdal, is out with a knee injury sustained against Nottingham Forest.

“We feared for some of them, particularly Ekdal, that it would be severe, but in the end, it will just be a normal rehab,” Kompany remarked at the end of August.

Dara O’Shea and Hannes Delcroix are the only two fit and healthy centre-backs Burnley currently have.

Johann Gudmundsson, Manuel Benson, Nathan Redmond, and Michael Obafemi are also injured for Burnley.

Gudmundsson commented on social media about his recuperation, saying, “The comeback is always stronger than the setback.”

The midfielder got the injury during the 1-0 loss to Manchester United on September 23, and was replaced by Mike Tresor after 20 minutes.
