The NBA trade deadline is approaching, giving teams like the Miami Heat a limited amount of time to make an impact before the clock runs out.
Last month, the Heat made a statement by trading for veteran player Terry Rozier, but sports pundit Bill Simmons is fascinated by the possibility of Miami making another trade – this time with the Chicago Bulls.
Simmons wants the Heat to acquire DeMar DeRozan and Alex Caruso in exchange for a deal that includes Tyler Herro and an unprotected first-round selection.
The Heat would be taking a gamble by selling a 24-year-old with strong club control for two veterans with significantly less club control.
Herro is signed until the 2026-27 season. Meanwhile, DeRozan is poised to become a free agent this offseason, while Caruso will do the same in 2025.
However, teams must sometimes take big swings in order to overcome obstacles, and it may be time for the Heat to do so.
This season, DeRozan averages 22.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game while shooting 46.4 percent from the field and 32.8 percent from three.
Caruso, for his part, is having one of the finest 3-point shooting seasons of his career, making 40.4 percent of his attempts. He also plays excellent defense, making him an extremely important 3-and-D player.
The Heat are now in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with a 27-24 record, which means they would qualify for the play-in round if the regular season concluded today. Miami shown last season that play-in teams are fully capable of causing havoc in the playoffs, but the team would likely prefer to earn a higher seed at the end of the regular season.
Hello! It’s true that Herro, who has been with the Heat his entire career, is accustomed to trade rumors. However, he deserves credit for consistently maintaining his focus amidst the speculation. Fans can anticipate him continuing to handle the situation with composure as the deadline for the 2023-24 season draws nearer.
“I want to see Miami get Tyler Herro & an unprotected first to Chicago & get back [DeMar] DeRozan & [Alex] Caruso…Miami just goes all in. They use the Herro chip. They use an unprotected first. Maybe they have to throw Jović in that. I don’t know what the value of DeRozan &… pic.twitter.com/04GMMKBhx6
