Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reported that the Los Angeles Lakers and the Utah Jazz are the only teams to have presented tangible trade proposals for Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray leading up to Thursday’s trade deadline.
Fischer shared on Marc Stein’s podcast, “The Stein Line,” that he has only heard of actual trade offers from the Lakers and the Jazz. However, he noted that the Lakers lack a clear and compelling package that satisfies the Hawks’ requirements for draft picks, desired players, and avoiding undesirable long-term salaries.
Regarding the Lakers’ interest in Murray, there have been ongoing rumors, including one report suggesting an offer involving guard D’Angelo Russell, forward Jalen Hood-Schifino, and draft picks to Atlanta. However, discussions reportedly stalled following this proposal, as per Stein’s report.
For the proposed trade to materialize, Atlanta would need to locate a third team willing to acquire Russell. There have been speculations about the involvement of the Brooklyn Nets in this scenario. However, as of now, it seems to be nothing more than conjecture.
Regarding the Jazz, there have been no reports indicating what they might offer for Murray. It’s believed that Utah is exploring options to trade forward Kelly Olynyk and guard Jordan Clarkson.
Will Murray be traded? One opposition executive told Hoops Wire he does not believe so. “I don’t think (coach Quin Snyder) wants to let him go this season,” the executive was quoted as saying. “They have other players they could trade to get some help.”
Clint Capela, the Hawks’ center, had a strained adductor and will be evaluated again in seven to ten days, according to a press statement. Capela is one of several Hawks regarded as a potential trade candidate ahead of Thursday’s deadline.
