Newcastle United may make one addition on transfer deadline day, but it is unlikely to have an immediate impact on the first team.
The Magpies have been hunting for a midfielder for a long time and are now about to get one. However, whereas targets like Kalvin Phillips and Amadou Onana would have gone directly into Eddie Howe’s squad, that will not be the case this time.
It was recently reported that Newcastle have agreed to sign Alfie Harrison from Manchester City. He is a highly regarded 18-year-old midfielder who has decided to go to Tyneside after being offered a clear path into the Toon first squad.
He will be a long-term signing, and additional information about his impending move to St James’ Park has emerged.
Newcastle set to sign future star Alfie Harrison
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are planning to sign Harrison from Manchester City in a deal that might cost the Magpies £3.5 million.
They claim that the initial fee is lower, but the agreement has other terms, including a sell-on clause.
According to Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News, the sell-on clause may be up to 40%. That is quite high, and demonstrates how highly regarded the adolescent is.

The deal to sign Harrison could be announced today, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, who stated on X on Wednesday night that the formal transfer documents had been signed. He’ll sign a contract with the Magpies until 2027.

So Newcastle might sign someone on deadline day after all! But it is hardly the agreement that Toon fans had hoped for. They’d like a huge name to appear who can make an immediate impression in black and white.
Harrison will not achieve that, but he is certainly someone the club believes has the potential to make a significant impact in the future. He is a newcomer to the organization who intends to advance swiftly.
He will be motivated by the rise of Lewis Miley, a 17-year-old Premier League regular.
