Sunderland have been keeping an eye on Amad’s position at Manchester United following his successful loan spell at the Stadium of Light last season.
Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Granada for Facundo Pellistri to join the Spanish club on loan, which might mean Sunderland target Amad stays at Old Trafford this month.
The Black Cats have been monitoring Amad’s condition since his impressive loan spell at the Stadium of Light last season, but the 21-year-old sustained a knee injury during pre-season. Sunderland’s sporting director, Kristjaan Speakman, indicated last week that the club is still interested in re-signing the forward but admits it may not be possible.
It was reported earlier this month that United intend to keep Amad for the second half of the season, with 18 months remaining on his contract and a club option for an additional year, extending the term until 2026.
Jadon Sancho’s loan move to Borussia Dortmund has narrowed United’s choices, while journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Granada have agreed to sign Pellistri on loan, with the deal now contingent on Erik ten Hag’s ‘green light.’
Despite United’s lack of wide players, Amad was an unused replacement in Sunday’s FA Cup win against Newport, with Marcus Rashford also missing and 19-year-old Omari Forson going on from the bench. The decision will create more questions regarding Amad’s immediate future at the Premier League club.
Amad has previously denied speculations that he could go on loan for Championship club Middlesbrough, saying: “If I had to come back on loan to the Championship, it would be Sunderland and not anywhere else.”
United are already preparing for Thursday’s Premier League encounter at Wolves, which will take place on the final day of the transfer window, before the 11 p.m. deadline.
