Newcastle United supporters haven’t seen much of Joe Willock this season, and there was a good chance they wouldn’t see him in black and white again.
The Magpies are hoping to cash in on someone before the January transfer window ends, as the club must sell before buying. This has created a tough scenario that may result in one of Eddie Howe’s most key players leaving the club.
Kieran Trippier will not be joining after confirming his stay, although Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson remain interested. The former’s predicament is particularly intriguing, considering he did not play against Fulham on Saturday night owing to illness.
Despite interest from other clubs in Saudi Arabia, Joe Willock will not be leaving Newcastle this month.
Newcastle are not selling Joe Willock
According to the Sun, Newcastle have chosen not to sell Willock this month after many clubs expressed interest in signing the 24-year-old.
But the Magpies are sure that Willock is not going anywhere, even as he approaches a return to fitness.
The midfielder has been a major disappointment this season, with hamstring and Achilles problems restricting him to only six appearances across all competitions.
Given how fantastic he was last season, it’s been quite disappointing to see him struggle with injuries. He has been a huge disappointment, which is why there is so much enthusiasm about his possible return.
Selling Willock would be a stupid idea. He is just too good. The £25 million man is a terrific player who will only improve.
The only stories supporters want to read about Willock are those regarding his return from injury, not his departure from Newcastle.
Given the club’s current circumstances, clubs have taken a bet on whether the Magpies will trade the former Arsenal player.
But Newcastle’s stance is firm – Joe Willock is going nowhere, and rightly so.
