Sunderland has so far spared the worst of both Storms Isha and Jocelyn, which battered the UK in rapid succession this week.
Thousands of houses have lost power, and two people have been killed as 100 mph winds ripped across several regions of the country.
The weather in Sunderland and the rest of the North East has been less severe, but there have been incidents like this one from North Tyneside, in which a wall collapsed on a car.
A yellow weather warning remains in effect for Sunderland until 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, January 24, but wind speeds have decreased and gusts are expected to be around 30 mph, dropping into the 20s by 3 p.m. and below 20 by 11 p.m.
On Thursday, wind speeds will be in the teens in the morning, increasing to the 20s by 10 a.m. and peaking at roughly 29 mph at 4 p.m., before falling somewhat and returning to 29 mph around 11 p.m.
Dry weather is also expected to continue today and Thursday, with a risk of light showers around 9 a.m. tomorrow, according to Met Office forecasts.
Temperatures are expected to decline somewhat from highs of around nine degrees today to five degrees by tomorrow.
