Breaking news: Newcastle transfer target ‘agrees’ Premier League move

Newcastle United’s transfer target Kalvin Phillips has reportedly agreed to join West Ham United.

18 months ago, the England midfielder joined Manchester City for £42 million from Leeds United. However, the move has not gone as planned, with Phillips making only two Premier League starts in that period.

Phillips, who has only made 10 appearances this season, has opted to pursue regular first-team action, and Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, and West Ham have all expressed considerable interest.

However, Manchester City’s demands, which include a loan fee of around £7 million, have proven to be a sticking block. Newcastle dropped out of the race last week and will only return if the circumstances change.

This has allowed West Ham to speed up their pursuit, and talkSPORT reports that the 28-year-old has agreed to the move. Loan negotiations are nearing completion.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is looking to strengthen his squad this month, with the midfield listed as a priority position. United will be without summer addition Sandro Tonali until August, and Joelinton is expected to miss the remainder of the season while recovering from thigh surgery.

With Elliot Anderson still out for another six weeks, Newcastle has only three fit senior midfielders: Lewis Miley, Sean Longstaff, and Bruno Guimaraes, who is one Premier League yellow card away from a two-match ban.

However, in order to comply with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability standards, the Magpies are expected to sell before buying this month. Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson, and Miguel Almiron have all been linked with other clubs in recent days.
