Newcastle have just reached ‘agreement’ to sell £21m player to Saudi club in January

Newcastle United has signed an initial agreement with Saudi side Al-Shabab to trade Miguel Almiron to the club this month.

This month, the Magpies have been seeking to add to their roster, but they are on the verge of breaking the FFP limit. This has resulted in reports of prospective sales, with Kieran Trippier among those linked with a move away.

However, seemingly out of nowhere this morning, Newcastle has secured an agreement with Al-Shabab to trade Miguel Almiron instead.

The £21 million forward appears to be receptive to the move as well, and negotiations are currently on to finalize the deal.

According to writer Ben Jacobs, a ‘provisional agreement’ has been reached for the transfer, and while the deal is not yet finalized, Almiron is ready to go to the Middle East.

Selling Almiron is likely to give Eddie Howe some sort of wiggle room in the market this month.

Injuries have hammered his team recently and a new midfielder is high on his wanted list.

A number of names, such as Kalvin Phillips and Amadou Onana, have been linked with a move to Tyneside.

 

Almiron moving on is big news

This is a significant event for Newcastle, and it will refocus attention on the club for a variety of reasons.

First, sceptics will argue that the Saudi-owned team is basically being bailed out by selling a key player to a Saudi Pro League club.

It is debatable how much truth will be contained throughout.

In terms of football, Eddie Howe finds this an intriguing situation. Almiron has performed admirably, but nowhere near the level he achieved last season, and if this move allows for a few acquisitions this month, Newcastle will be pleased.

With just over a week remaining in the window, it’s unclear who the new faces will be.

But Almiron going could have a domino effect and ensure a busy end to the window.
