Ipswich Town key man now facing shock January departure

West Ham are keeping tabs on Leif Davis ahead of a potential January swoop for Ipswich Town defender

According to The Football League Paper, the Hammers are looking to improve their left-back options before the winter transfer window ends on February 1.

The Premier League team has had a long-standing interest in the defender and may attempt to strike this month.
Davis is an important member of Ipswich Town’s first team, having appeared in 24 of the club’s first 27 games this season.

He has played a significant role in the club’s bid for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Leif Davis transfer interest

West Ham is actively seeking to reinforce David Moyes’ squad in January, aiming to secure a spot in European competitions for the upcoming season. The club, currently competing in the Europa League, is eyeing consecutive successes on the continent.

One primary focus for strengthening is the left-back position, and Davis is being considered as a potential target. The Ipswich defender, who joined the club from Leeds United in the summer of 2022, has been instrumental in the team’s performance, boasting an impressive 10 assists, the second-highest in the Championship this season.

Although Emerson Palmieri has been the consistent left-back starter for West Ham this campaign, the club is exploring the possibility of an upgrade, particularly with an eye on European competition. Davis, who smoothly transitioned from League One to the Championship, is garnering attention, making any potential January transfer likely to come at a significant cost.

Davis had a notable impact in the third tier last season, contributing three goals and 14 assists as Ipswich earned promotion to the Championship with a second-place finish. With aspirations for back-to-back promotions, Ipswich currently holds a top-two position for the majority of the current season.

A hectic summer saw the club prepare for life in the second level with a number of new signings.

McKenna has received a lot of appreciation for his efforts in assembling a team capable of competing for a spot in the top division.

However, they will face opposition from Leeds United and Southampton, with the Saints moving into second place after a 3-1 victory over Swansea City on Saturday afternoon.

Ipswich can return to the top two with a win against league leaders Leicester City on Monday night.

Davis cannot be sold this month

Davis is such an important player for Ipswich that losing him could jeopardize their promotion push.

Any deal must be postponed until the summer, as he will undoubtedly have plenty of admirers by then, whatever happens.

Moving to West Ham would be an amazing opportunity, especially given the club’s European success.

However, gaining back-to-back promotions with the Tractor Boys is an appealing endeavor, which should persuade Davis to stay with the club for at least another few months.
