Sunderland have monitored ‘exciting’ teen striker ahead of potential free transfer

Sunderland are keeping an eye on West Ham United striker Divin Mubama’s future, as he might go for free this summer.

Sunderland’s search for a new striker has been extensively publicised throughout the transfer window.

Despite signing four in the summer, Michael Beale wants to add a talisman to his squad to improve their chances of making the Championship play-offs.

Nazariy Rusyn is Sunderland’s only striker this season, scoring in a 2-0 win over Preston North End on New Year’s Day.

The team has been linked with numerous forwards who have extensive experience playing in the English Football League.

Kieffer Moore, who is now out of favour at Bournemouth, is their primary target.

Meanwhile, Blackburn Rovers striker Sam Gallagher has been linked with a transfer to the Stadium of Light, while Beale has been urged to recruit Peterborough United’s quick shot Jonson Clarke-Harris.

The above individuals are experienced strikers at this level who could augment the youth and rawness of their present forwards.

That still hasn’t stopped Sunderland from monitoring West Ham’s teenage sensation Divin Mubama.

Sunderland could sign Divin Mubama on a free transfer

Given that three of the Black Cats’ current strikers are 20 or younger, supporters do not believe they require another untested kid to join their ranks.

Sunderland, West Bromwich Albion, and Everton are all keeping an eye on Mubama, according to the Mail+.

The 19-year-old is out of contract with the Hammers in June and has yet to sign a new contract at the London Stadium, so he might depart on a free transfer this summer.

With David Moyes suffering injuries to Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen, Mubama’s importance to West Ham has grown.

The report states that the club don’t want him going out on loan and would prefer to keep the England U20 international around after offering him a new contract.

Should Sunderland pursue Mubama?

Although Mubama has been prolific for the Hammers academy, scoring 56 goals in 88 U18 and U21 games, his first-team experience is limited.

He has only made 16 appearances for the senior team in all competitions, and while he is undeniably gifted, Sunderland cannot afford to take a chance on another kid to lead their line.

Moyes also wants to retain the teenager around despite their present injury issue, and if he establishes himself over their next run of games, the Black Cats will have little chance of signing him for free in the summer.

Hailed as an “exciting talent” by journalist Antonio Mango, many are obliged to believe that Mubama is the next big thing to come from the London Stadium and it would be a disaster if the club didn’t provide him with the opportunity to prove that.
