Newcastle now pushing hard to sell 28-year-old player permanently this January

Newcastle United are now looking for a new midfielder, but Isaac Hayden will not be given another chance.

Eddie Howe’s choices in the middle of the park are now severely restricted, and there is little indication that they will improve anytime soon.

The revelation that the Magpies had cooled their interest in signing Kalvin Phillips made Monday a dismal day in that department. This was followed by reports that Joelinton’s season may be ended due to injury.

That leaves Newcastle with only three fit central midfielders, one of whom is one booking away from a two-game suspension. That is Bruno Guimaraes, who is our most essential player.

Howe clearly needs another midfield option right now, which coincides with Isaac Hayden’s loan spell at Standard Liege being ended.

However, the 28-year-old’s chances of wearing the famed black and white stripes again are unlikely. Instead, he is exploring a departure from St James’ Park.

Newcastle looking to move Isaac Hayden on despite midfield crisis

Isaac Hayden shows he can be future Newcastle skipper

According to the Telegraph, Hayden is in talks with Championship club Preston North End regarding a January transfer to Deepdale.
Preston were linked with a bid for the midfielder lately, and it now appears that Ryan Lowe’s side are ratcheting up their interest. A move to the Lilywhites would reunite Hayden with Freddie Woodman, who departed Newcastle in 2022.

Hayden appears to be on his way to the Championship, and the Northern Echo reports that Birmingham City is also interested in him. They further state that the club is pushing for any loan exit to include a commitment to sign him permanently in the summer.

He is not short of suitors, but a fresh chance at Newcastle is certainly not on the cards. While he plays in the position that we desperately need players in, his Toon career is over.

No way Hayden will get another chance at Newcastle

Suggestions that he could come in and do a job are ludicrous at best, considering the trajectory of his career since Howe’s arrival at St James’ Park.

He has been hampered by injuries, and he failed to impress during a loan spell at Norwich City.

Hayden was most recently in Belgium, where his performances for Standard Liege were characterized as ‘inconsistent’ by the club’s CEO.

Hayden was immensely popular at Newcastle United, so maybe he can find stability at his next team. But, despite his popularity, he is not what we require right now.
