On loan Burnley playmaker Scott Twine has seemingly played his last game for Hull City and is edging closer to joining the Tigers’ Championship rivals Bristol City, Hull Live understands.
Twine is expected to make his farewell appearance for City in Friday night’s 2-1 home defeat to Norwich City in front of a sell-out MKM Stadium crowd, with the 24-year-old playing 63 minutes before being substituted by winger Jason Lokilo.
The summer signing had been a long-term target for Tigers owner Acun Ilicali, and he joined the Tigers on a season-long loan from the Premier League Clarets. He will now join the Robins midway through the January transfer window.
Bristol City made an enquiry earlier this month but turned down Burnley’s rumored £5 million asking price. However, conversations have continued since then, and the two teams have now agreed on a permanent contract for around £2.5 million. Twine made his City debut against Burnley’s archrivals Blackburn Rovers in August, and the Tigers won 2-1 at Ewood Park thanks to an Aaron Connolly brace.
Twine has appeared in 24 Championship games since his debut in Lancashire, scoring four goals and assisting three others for Liam Rosenior’s side.
His first goal in Black and Amber came in a 2-0 win over Birmingham City on October 25, followed by goals against Rotherham and Watford. His most recent City goal came in a 3-0 victory over Cardiff City in mid-December, which earned him the club’s Goal of the Month award.
Twine played 1,804 minutes across 26 league and cup games, but will now go to Ashton Gate to join Liam Manning’s Robins, who are 14th in the table, three points behind ninth-placed City.
Following the signing of Fabio Carvalho from Liverpool, who is considered to be Rosenior’s first-choice option in the number 10 position, Twine’s appearances in that position were expected to be restricted, and he has primarily been deployed on the right or left of the three behind the striker.
Meanwhile, it is likely that the Championship play-off hopefuls would finalize the permanent signing of Fortuna Sittard goalkeeper Ivor Pandur early this week.
Like Carvalho, he will not be eligible to make his debut at St Andrew’s in the FA Cup replay having not been registered for the first meeting between the two sides. Pandur, who is currently staying in Hull was at the MKM Stadium on Friday evening.
