Leeds United’s forward, Sam Greenwood, who is currently on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship, might be on the verge of leaving Elland Road for good. There is strong interest from Middlesbrough in securing a permanent deal for the 21-year-old.
Greenwood moved to Middlesbrough during the recent summer transfer window when it became apparent that he wouldn’t be part of Daniel Farke’s plans at Leeds for the upcoming season. Despite making 18 Premier League appearances for Leeds last season, his future with the club seemed uncertain.
Since joining Middlesbrough on a season-long loan, Greenwood has made six appearances for the team, with four of them as a substitute. He scored his first goal for Middlesbrough in a heated derby match against Sunderland, adding an ironic twist as it was at the Stadium of Light where Greenwood began his footballing journey.
It has been revealed that Middlesbrough, managed by Michael Carrick, have an option to make Greenwood’s loan move permanent at the end of the season. According to The Athletic, they can secure his services on a full-time basis for £1.5 million, which is the same amount Leeds initially paid to sign him from Arsenal in the summer of 2020.

If Greenwood makes the permanent switch to Middlesbrough next summer, he will leave Elland Road after making 35 appearances in all competitions for Leeds, scoring one goal and providing four assists.
