Pundit confirms £20m Champions League winner wants to join Newcastle United

Ally McCoist has suggested that Newcastle United use the opportunity to sign a midfielder who is now looking for a new club.

While there have been recent links to Jordan Henderson to address their injury worries, the Sunderland connection may complicate a prospective transfer.

According to Ally McCoist on talkSPORT, Jordan Henderson would be a great fit for Newcastle, serving as a temporary replacement for Sandro Tonali for the rest of the season.

While Henderson’s profile fits that of an experienced Premier League midfielder, his Sunderland background may provide a hurdle, given his history of being booed at St James’ Park regardless of whatever team he was playing for. The sentiment among Newcastle supporters may influence Henderson’s ease of acceptance.

With the Englishman’s situation at Al Ettifaq not working out, Ally McCoist believes the £20 million midfielder will return to the Premier League with Newcastle.

McCoist told talkSPORT: “I think he would absolutely jump at the chance of going to somewhere like Newcastle United.” The fact that he is a Sunderland kid may have played a role, but in terms of a move, I believe it would benefit all parties.”

Newcastle’s midfield requires reinforcement, preferably as soon as possible this season, and despite Henderson’s association with their closest rivals, a move for the former Liverpool captain makes sense.
