January latest: Sunderland now clear favorites to sign £2.5m-rated powerful striker

Sunderland appears to be leading in the pursuit of Kieffer Moore from Bournemouth, as per journalist Alan Nixon. While Leeds United also holds an interest, they currently lag behind Sunderland in securing his signature. Moore, seeking regular Championship playtime due to being out of favor at Bournemouth, has only seen limited action this season, featuring sparingly in cup games and not starting any Premier League matches.

Despite his reduced role, Moore showcased his scoring ability with a recent goal in the FA Cup against QPR. Sunderland, aiming to bolster their attacking options, eyes Moore’s proven goal-scoring record in the Championship.

Reports indicate Bournemouth’s openness to selling Moore, especially if the right offer materializes. With other players ahead of him in Bournemouth’s lineup, it seems improbable for Moore to reclaim his spot this season.

Though no deal is in place yet, Sunderland seems to have a greater need for the signing compared to Leeds. The statistics highlight Sunderland’s reliance on Nazariy Rysin, who has only managed one goal in ten Championship matches, contrasting with Leeds’ potent attacking quartet.

Transfermarkt values Moore around £2.5 million, a reasonable figure considering his track record of over 60 goal contributions in 155 games in the Championship.

Sunderland faces Ipswich Town, currently in second place, in an upcoming league match, aiming to recover from a recent defeat to Newcastle United. A victory would keep Sunderland in contention for a playoff position. Meanwhile, Ipswich must secure a win to maintain pressure on Championship leaders Leicester City.

Writers Point of View

Moore would be an excellent signing for Sunderland, who want something different in the front areas than what they currently have. Jack Clarke is the only player in the team with double-digit goals, with Dan Ballard at centre-back scoring more than Rysin up attack.

The Bournemouth target man is a proven league goalscorer who has a point to show after falling out of favour with the club that promoted him to the Premier League in 2022.
