Manager confirms 27-year-old Southampton star will not leave club in January

Everton manager Sean Dyche has stated that Rangers target Mason Holgate will not be recalled from his loan spell at Southampton.

This season, the 27-year-old has been a bit player for the Saints under manager Russell Martin.

Despite the fact that the Toffees have the option of recalling him and loaning him out to another club, they do not appear to be interested in doing so at the moment.

According to Football Scotland, Dyche stated on January 3rd, “The player made it very clear he wanted the fresh feel of a new challenge, and wanted to get his teeth into it.” That’s exactly what I expect him to do. He hasn’t played much, but that’s part of being a professional. He is currently a Southampton player.”

Move on

Rangers should reconsider chasing Holgate since the defender’s unclear condition and lack of regular game time could jeopardize their quest of the league title.
While the 27-year-old has voiced a desire for a new challenge and more playing time, his current scenario at Southampton does not provide him with the consistency he craves.

In order to achieve rapid success, the Gers want players who are not only talented but also immediately available and in peak condition.

Holgate’s limited appearances at Southampton, combined with the club’s excellent unbeaten run in the Championship, suggest that he will face competition for a starting berth.

It’s odd that he moved from Everton to St Mary’s to obtain game time and then refuses to go even when he doesn’t receive it.

There are lots of other defenders Philippe Clement may target if that is actually the club’s primary position this summer.
