Sunderland now interested in signing ‘versatile’ Premier League midfielder

Sunderland are apparently interested in loaning out Aston Villa midfielder Lamare Bogarde, who was recalled from Bristol Rovers earlier this month.

Bogarde, 19, has made 14 League One appearances for Rovers this season after signing a new loan deal with the club in August.
Sunderland are interested in the central midfielder who can also play in defense, according to The Athletic. Michael Beale, the Black Cats’ manager, worked with Bogarde as Villa’s assistant manager and is thought to be interested in signing the kid.

According to the source, SPL side Aberdeen has inquired about Borgarde’s availability, with Villa assessing their options to ensure the player gets first-team football.

Sunderland attempted to sign another central midfielder during the summer transfer window but were unable to complete a deal. This season, the Black Cats have relied on Dan Neil and Pierre Ekwah in the middle of the park, while Jobe Bellingham has moved back into a deeper midfield role.

Jay Matete has returned to training after a protracted knee injury and last month played 45 minutes for Sunderland’s under-21s. “Jay Matete is training and has been for a while, he got 45 minutes in a U21s game, but he just hasn’t been selected for the last couple of games,” Beale said of the 22-year-old ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup showdown against Newcastle. As a result, he is available for selection.”

Sunderland captain Corry Evans has also been out this season due to an ACL injury.
