Sunderland make the trip to Rotherham United in the Championship this evening.
Sunderland will be looking to make it two victories in a row after beating Hull City away on Boxing Day. Sunderland moved back into the top six of the Championship with that victory.
Michael Beale is off to a good start as the new head coach in the north east, but fans aren’t getting too excited, and his team is expected to win easily.
Rotherham United are bottom of the league, and despite a last-minute triumph over Middlesbrough, they are still a long way from safety.
Sunderland team news
Bradley Dack got injured early in the game against the Tigers and will miss this one.
Both Aji Alese and Dennis Cirkin are still out, with the former having recently returned to training.
Niall Huggins was stretchered off against Coventry City and is expected to miss the rest of the season.
Corry Evans is still out due to a long-term injury.
Sunderland predicted XI
Patterson (GK) Seelt O’Nien Ballard Hume Ekwah Neil Clarke Pritchard Roberts Jobe
Huggins was replaced by Jenson Seelt against Hull City, and the Dutch defender showed no reason to be discarded.
Adil Aouchiche came off the bench to replace the injured Dack at the MKM Stadium, but Alex Pritchard is expected to return to the starting XI if declared fit. Pritchard was unable to play against Coventry City due to illness, although he returned to the bench on Boxing Day.
Elsewhere, it appears unlikely that any of the strikers will start, with Jobe set to resume his false nine role.
Pierre Ekwah and Dan Neil will almost certainly keep their midfield positions. Sunderland don’t have much depth in this area, therefore the pair did well last time out.
The game kicks off at 7.45pm this evening.
