‘It’s a realistic possibility’ – Pundit claims Newcastle could now sign World Cup winner

Hugo Lloris a ‘realistic possibility’ for Newcastle from Tottenham after Nick Pope injury

Hugo Lloris is a “better option” than Eddie Howe’s present back-ups to the injured Nick Pope, according to Paul Robinson, and would be a “realistic possibility” for Newcastle to sign from Tottenham.

The Magpies’ starter dislocated his shoulder against Manchester United in early December and will be sidelined for four months [Sky Sports, 6 December].

Former England goalkeeper Robinson believes that long-time Spurs starter and captain Lloris, as well as former Manchester United number one David de Gea, would be an upgrade above Loris Karius and Martin Dubravka.

Lloris hasn’t played a single minute since Ange Postecoglou arrived in the summer, with new signing Guglielmo Vicario cementing his place in goal, and the Frenchman’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, so Robinson believes a move to St. James’ Park is a possibility.

Tottenham have made a decision on the future of Hugo Lloris

“As far as Newcastle, yeah, it’s a realistic possibility for them with their financial fair play,” he exclusively told Tottenham News. We already know how close they are to the finish line.

“So for them to bring in a goalkeeper in January, Eddie Howe has quite cleverly said in the press that he’s looking at the goalkeepers that he’s got, he thinks they’re good enough to carry the situation until Nick Pope gets back.

“He’s got to say that because he needs his goalkeepers before January. The two that he’s got in Karius and Dubravka are not at the level that Nick Pope is.

“So you look at the possibility of Hugo Lloris, or David de Gea is another one, those two are both better options than what he’s got, but he’s got to be clever with what he says.

“For Lloris, if that’s the way that he wants to do that then you’ve got to put into the question his age and his want to play, his drive and passion to still play at the top level, whether that’s in the Premier League, back in France or wherever.

“His personal situation comes into it more than anything because of his age, but Lloris or De Gea is certainly a better option in my opinion than what Newcastle have already got.”
