JUST IN: Rob Thomson Confirms Phillies All-Star Has Suffered Another Major Injury Setback

Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto and shortstop Trea Turner were sidelined for Sunday’s series finale against the Nationals, but manager Rob Thomson indicated both might be ready for Monday’s home opener against Colorado.

Realmuto exited Saturday’s game in the seventh inning after bruising his foot by fouling a ball off himself. Meanwhile, Turner missed his second straight game due to back spasms.

Thomson explained that Realmuto was held out as a precaution and expects him to be ready after resting on Sunday.

Turner, who first experienced back tightness after Thursday’s season opener, said the issue worsened while fielding ground balls before Saturday’s game. On Sunday, he received treatment, took some swings, and played catch.

“We’ll reevaluate tomorrow,” Thomson said, adding that Turner could get an extra day of rest with Tuesday’s off day in mind.
