Tom Brady has already reunited with one former Buccaneers Super Bowl LV starter by bringing in Alex Cappa, and now he’s adding another ex-Tampa Bay teammate to the Raiders.
Linebacker is joining Las Vegas on a one-year deal, according to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz. Raiders GM John Spytek, who was with the Buccaneers when they drafted him fifth overall, is familiar with the linebacker’s potential. After a brief and unproductive stint in Philadelphia, he will now have an opportunity to revive his career in Vegas.
The Raiders lost key linebacker starters Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo in free agency, signing only Elandon Roberts to a one-year, $3 million deal as a replacement. While the draft will be a focal point for upgrades, Las Vegas is taking a chance on White, whose stock has significantly declined since Tampa Bay exercised his fifth-year option. White signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the Eagles last season but failed to carve out a role in Vic Fangio’s defense and was released in early October. He finished the season with the Texans, appearing in seven games with one start.
Once viewed as a rising star, White’s career has taken a downturn due to injuries, inconsistent play, and clashes over his role. He previously requested a trade in hopes of securing a lucrative extension but struggled to justify his value. Despite his past struggles, White has a history of success against the Raiders, including a standout performance in 2020 when he recorded three sacks, 11 tackles, and a forced fumble. Now, at 27, he has a chance for redemption in Las Vegas, though the Raiders are expected to continue bolstering their linebacker corps even after signing him and Roberts.
