The FA Cup is now Bruno Guimaraes’ only chance of winning a trophy with Newcastle United this season.
Newcastle were eliminated from the Champions League less than a week ago, falling 2-1 to AC Milan. Our Carabao Cup odyssey is also ended, with the Magpies falling on penalties to Chelsea.
Eddie Howe’s team were minutes away from another League Cup semi-final, only for Mykhailo Mudryk to capitalize on Kieran Trippier’s blunder and force a penalty shootout.
Both Callum Wilson and Bruno Guimaraes scored penalties, but Chelsea won thanks to misses from Kieran Trippier and Matt Ritchie.
Newcastle deserved more after defending so hard. In black and white, there were several massive performances, one of which came from Bruno Guimaraes.
The 26-year-old was outstanding, putting his body on the line to deliver a trophy to Tyneside. He even made a spectacular goal-line clearing, which he celebrated as if he had scored himself.
However, Bruno’s efforts were in vain as Newcastle were eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Chelsea.

Following the Carabao Cup exit, Bruno took to X (previously known as Twitter) to express his disappointment and to communicate with fans.
“Thank you for your support,” he added. Better was due to us. “As always, we stick together.”

FA Cup is now even more important for Newcastle and Bruno
Bruno is correct; we deserved better. Unfortunately, we did not receive what we deserved.
It was a painful way to be eliminated from the competition, which Newcastle were determined to win after losing in the final to Manchester United last season.
However, because the Magpies were eliminated in the quarter-finals, the FA Cup is the only competition we can potentially win. The Premier League title is still mathematically feasible, but it is not going to happen.
With a Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland looming in the third round, the FA Cup has suddenly become much more significant.
