Michael Beale has agreed a deal running until the summer of 2026 to be the new head coach at Sunderland
Michael Beale has stated that being named Sunderland’s new head coach is a “huge honor.”
On Monday afternoon, Beale was confirmed as Tony Mowbray’s successor, signing a two-and-a-half year contract. He will work closely with Mike Dodds, who has been appointed to assistant head coach, as well as Michael Proctor and Alessandro Barcherini, who are already on the first team.
Beale praised the trio for their efforts over the last week and expressed his belief that he could contribute value to the work being done both at the top level and inside the club’s academy. The former Rangers manager began work on Monday and will take command of his first game this Saturday when Coventry City visit the Stadium of Light.
“It’s a huge honour to be joining the Sunderland family and I would like to thank Kyril, Kristjaan and the rest of the Executive Team for the faith and responsibility they have placed in me,” Beale said in a statement.
“The existing coaching team deserves enormous credit for navigating the interim period, and they, like all of the Club’s staff, will continue to be vitally important moving forward alongside the incredible fans who make SAFC such a historic and unique Club.” It’s evident that some fantastic work is being done at the senior and academy levels, and I’m thrilled to support their efforts while also implementing my own ideas as we build on the Club’s strong brand.”
Later this week, Beale will conduct his first press conference.
