Vincent Kompany addresses Burnley star future amid transfer speculation from PL rivals

A stern Vincent Kompany insists Burnley won’t even “entertain” speculation that Josh Brownhill might depart.

Wolves, Burnley’s Premier League rivals, were said to be monitoring the 27-year-old and looking for a low-cost contract last week.

According to the Mirror, Gary O’Neil’s team is preparing a £7 million bid for the forthcoming January transfer window.

O’Neil is said to have admired Brownhill since taking over at Bournemouth and is now looking for a left-sided midfielder.

The midfielder, who is presently captaining the Clarets in Josh Cullen’s absence, is in the final year of his contract at Turf Moor, but the Clarets have the option to extend it by another year.

There's no talk': Vincent Kompany addresses Josh Brownhill's Burnley future amid West Ham & Wolves speculation

Kompany responded to the talk ahead of today’s game against Everton in a concise but forceful statement.

“We’ve never considered Brownhill being somewhere else. “They’re rumors I can’t even entertain,” he stated.
When asked if Burnley is likely to exercise the option or offer a new long-term contract, Kompany had another curt response.

“You mentioned the option, so I’m just going to trigger the logic in this one – what happens if we don’t trigger the option?” he said. He leaves on his own. Guys, come on.”

Brownhill has been a mainstay with the Clarets this season, appearing in 16 games and scoring three goals.

The midfielder first made the move to Turf Moor in January 2020 after joining from Bristol City for a rumoured £9m fee.
