Hasan Arat, the new president of Beşiktaş, has vetoed a potential deal for Burnley striker Wout Weghorst, citing his displeasure with the striker’s January departure to Manchester United.
Takvim quotes the president as saying, “I will not take back someone who left us” when the possibility of a reunion is raised.
They explain that Beşiktaş has begun the countdown to the January transfer window, compiling a list of potential targets to bolster their team in the winter season.
They’re particularly focused on their forward line and a striker and in that search, a ‘surprise name came to the fore’.
Wout Weghorst was offered to the Black Whites through agents, but it seems a move for the Burnley striker, who is currently out on loan, was rejected by President Hasan Arat.
He ‘immediately rejected’ this offer and is quoted as saying “we have nothing to do with the man who left Beşiktaş. I will not take him back.”
He appears to be still irritated by Weghorst’s choice to leave Beşiktaş, whom he had joined from Burnley last summer, for Manchester United in January following his World Cup achievements.
The striker is now on loan at Hoffenheim but has struggled so far this season with four goals and one assist in 14 games, and it looks his agents are seeking for a new club, but it won’t be Beşiktaş.
