Many Newcastle United players, notably Alexander Isak, are currently on fumes.
Despite only recently recovering from a groin ailment, the 24-year-old has started five consecutive games for the Magpies.
Due to Callum Wilson’s hamstring injury, the Newcastle attacker has had to start every game since his comeback. But he’s back today and hoping to make his Champions League debut against AC Milan.
Eddie Howe has yet to decide who will lead the line, but Alexander Isak has to be the favorite. He has scored the most goals this season and has started every Champions League game in which he has been available.
However, he does not appear to be at his best right now, and he squandered a fantastic opportunity to score against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.
Given how fatigued his players appear, Howe does at least have the opportunity to modify things. Isak fits into this group, and TalkSPORT commentator Alan Brazil believes the Sweden international has’something wrong’ with him.
Alan Brazil thinks there is something wrong with Alexander Isak
Alan Brazil raised concern over Alexander Isak on TalkSPORT on Wednesday morning (6:44am) after seeing him struggle during the Spurs defeat.
“I must admit, I don’t want to take anything away from Spurs, because we know what Ange [Postecoglou] is like, but I was really disappointed with Newcastle,” he was quoted as saying.
“They appeared to be shattered all over the pitch.”
“And for me there’s something wrong with [Alexander] Isak, I don’t know what it is but there’s something not right with him at the moment.”
Newcastle striker has been inconsistent since his return from injury
Isak’s form has been erratic since returning from injury. He has two goals, one against Chelsea and one that should have been the game-winner against Paris Saint-Germain. He also performed admirably in the win over Manchester United.
However, he has been ineffective in our last two games, as has Newcastle United as a whole.
He seemed to be playing within himself, but that should alter now that Wilson is back in shape.
The pair motivates each other to improve, and it also allows Howe to rotate his strikers rather than asking Isak to play every minute.
