Callum Wilson has stated what he hopes to do during his time at Newcastle United.
Wilson has been a great striker since joining the club in 2020, and his personal ambition has always been to score 100 Premier League goals, which he is getting closer to.
Wilson stated in an interview with NUFCTV prior to the AC Milan game that he hopes to become Newcastle’s second-highest scorer in Premier League history while still at the club.
Wilson has been on fire at Newcastle
Wilson was one of the better transfers under the previous regime, signing from Bournemouth for £20 million and still leading the line today, with the team competing for championships in the Champions League.
Despite his fitness difficulties, Wilson is one of the Premier League’s most consistent and driven scorers, and he will always give you his all on the field.
For the last three seasons, the England international has climbed the leaderboard of Newcastle’s highest Premier League scorers, scoring 45 goals in 97 games and passing Andy Cole, Les Ferdinand, and Shola Ameobi.
All eyes are now on Wilson to score three more goals to leapfrog Peter Beardsley, but Wilson is wary of stealing Alan Shearer’s top scoring title.
Wilson stated in an interview, “Yeah, for me as a striker, every time you step on the field, you want to score a goal.”While I’m at the club, there’s a second goal to strive toward. Big Al’s out in ahead, and I doubt I’ll catch him unless I stay here for the next five or ten years.
“But it’s nice to try and write your name in the history books of such a fantastic football club.”
Injuries have prevented Wilson from reaching the very top
Wilson has a history of injury issues that have plagued him throughout his career, and the striker has only recently returned to the team after missing a few weeks.
However, the 31-year-old had a largely injury-free season last year, demonstrating exactly how successful he can be when fit, scoring 18 Premier League goals, a personal best.
Wilson, who is nearing the end of his career, is as determined as ever and is looking forward to tonight’s Champions League clash against AC Milan at St James’ Park after being injured for the amazing game against PSG.
