Harry Birtwistle, defender for Wolves under-21s, has had his contract extended until the summer of 2025.
The 20-year-old has signed a new contract at Molineux, two years after signing his first professional contract with the club.
Birtwistle has been with the Old Gold since 2017, after Academy officials initially noticed him playing at the age of eight as part of a Wolves international training camp in Singapore.
He was invited to the United Kingdom and successfully passed a trial at Compton Park, and he has since established himself as an important player of James Collins’ under-21 side.
Birtwistle has primarily played at right-back for the majority of the 2023/24 season, but he can also play farther forward as a wing-back or right midfielder.
Jon Hunter-Barrett, Academy Manager for Football, expressed his excitement at securing the services of another young star at Compton for an extended length of time, saying, “We are pleased to extend Harry’s contract for another season.” He provides experience to our under-21s environment as well as a strong desire to improve.
“Harry has been with us since he was 12 years old and has been an important part of the group’s successes over the years in the Youth Cup, as well as the under-21s promotion and cup run.” The experiences have provided Harry with a solid foundation on which to grow and perform.
“Progression wise, it will be important for Harry to continue with his level of improvement and create his own opportunities within the 21s or first-team environment.”
